Bioactives: Better health for 2012

by Rachelle Larsen

It’s a new year, full of fresh starts, new goals, and some surprising research. If your resolutions involve being more informed or providing better health to your patients - you need to know about bioactives.

Bioactives are quickly emerging as a promising new industry, and Tahitian Noni is widely regarded as the leader in this emerging industry. It was the first company to offer a bioactive supplement. It’s the only company to guarantee a standardized level of bioactives in every product.

The key bioactive in Tahitian Noni Bioactive Supplements is a powerful group of phytochemicals known as iridoids. Plants produce iridoids as a defense against infection and other threats. Iridoids have been scientifically proven to eliminate harmful free radicals, control cholesterol, increase energy, promote heart health, enhance the immune system, reduce inflammation, prevent cell mutation, support healthy brain activity, and more. Tahitian Noni Bioactive Supplements are one of the most concentrated sources of iridoids, with more than 15 different iridoid compounds identified so far.

The iridoids in noni are both healthy and remarkably stable. As a result, they retain their chemical composition even when exposed to heat and light - conditions of processing and pasteurization that often degrade or breakdown weaker chemical compounds. This also means they remain stable over long periods of storage, which is why the iridoids in Tahitian Noni’s Bioactive Supplements retain nearly full potency from tree to the bottle, and are guaranteed to maintain potency for a minimum of two years in an unopened bottle.

Over the years, scientists have performed extensive research on the Tahitian Noni Bioactive Supplements and the powerful iridoids they contain. With over a dozen, peer-reviewed, human clinical studies, scientists have learned that the iridoids in Tahitian Noni Original offer remarkable benefits. They...

Maintain healthy total cholesterols and promote healthy HDL cholesterol levels. In a clinical trial, Dr. Mian-Ying Wang of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford found that drinking Tahitian Noni Original lowered triglycerides by as much as 54% and LDL cholesterol by 10%. In addition, a rigorous double-blind clinical trial at the University of Illinois College of Medicine illustrated the adaptogenic properties of Tahitian Noni bioactive beverages. After drinking Tahitian Noni Original, cholesterol levels in 285 heavy smokers were proportionately lowered.

Deliver superior antioxidants. The iridoids in Tahitian Noni Original are scientifically proven to be a superior source of antioxidants. In that clinical trial of 285 heavy cigarette smokers (smoking significantly increases free radicals in the body), those who drank it experienced a 30% decrease in free radicals found in the blood.

Increase energy and endurance. The energy-enhancing benefit of Tahitian Noni bioactive beverages was demonstrated in a clinical trial involving 40 highly trained long distance runners. After three weeks, athletes who drank Tahitian Noni Original had an average increase of 21% in endurance. Plus, the beverage’s anti-inflammatory properties have been shown to help reduce recovery time after exercise and competition.

Support cardiovascular health. In a Brigham Young University-Hawaii study, Tahitian Noni Original was shown to produce a measurable benefit to people with mild-to-moderately elevated blood pressure after drinking the beverage for just one month. This occurred even without any other significant changes in lifestyle factors.

Enhance the immune system. Multiple scientific studies have demonstrated the positive effects of Tahitian Noni Original on the immune system. One study found that healthy adults who drank the beverage for two months experienced a 30% increase in natural killer cell activity, a major part of the immune system’s first line of defense. It also documented a 32% increase in interleukin-2, an important signaling molecule that tells the immune system how to adequately respond in times of need.

Support joint health, mobility, and flexibility. The common name for noni in the West Indies is “pain killer bush,” and modern studies explain why. Studies show that the bioactives in Tahitian Noni Bioactive Supplements inhibit inflammatory enzymes in the body, reducing joint swelling and pain while improving range of movement. They achieve this without the harmful side effects that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs often produce.
Bioactives are a promising new approach to health management. The studies mentioned above describe just a few of the benefits scientists are finding. Every year, Tahitian Noni sponsors the International Iridoid Research Symposium (IIRS), an annual venue for top iridoid researchers to share their findings with colleagues around the world. In 2010, nearly 400 people attended the event. Last year, the IIRS brought together almost 800 attendees, including leading scientists and researchers from Germany, China, South Korea, Russia, Hungary, and India.
